Understanding MQ views (9:00 – 12:00)

Mq_views determine how the windows you see in Horizon look and what information is included. Each window you see in Horizon is a ‘view’, or graphical representation of the tables and their data. In this session we will show you how views are structured, how to open views and how to reconfigure views. You will be introduced to the concept of using ‘Alternate Views’ in modules to allow various groups of users to see different screens.

Marc maps (13:00 – 15:00)

Marc_mapping is the way horizon retrieves bibliographic information stored in the MARC records. It is a method of extracting information from a Marc record for display, limiting and indexing. As ‘marc_maps’ is used throughout your entire Horizon system including HIP, the setup can be complex, including multiple sets of maps. We will discuss the logic, steps and patterns used to create marc_maps. The focus is in these specific areas:

• Setting marc_map to display specific data from marc records
  • Display of Format icons on Hip
  • Working with images (HIP)
  • Display Tag 856
• Setting up HIP keyword indexes.

Z39.50 Communication (15:15 – 16:30)

Horizon system provides you the ability to search using z39.50 capability. In this session we will explore the setup for the Z39.50 interface. The following areas are covered:

• Setting up a Z39.50 configuration file:
  • To let your users search other Z39.50 capable libraries or databases from HIP.
  • To let you search and download bibliographic records from other Z39.50 capable libraries or databases onto Horizon.

Working with Catalogue & Authority records (9:00 – 12:00)

This session will explore working with the catalogue and authority format policies and highlight new features in this area such as:

• MARC editor navigation.
  • Configuring Browse & Keyword variation policies for specific marc tags (including the new combination browse index)
  • Configuring specific marc tags to be under authority control
  • Global headings change helper

Introducing 9XX and EDI functionality into Acquisitions (13:00 – 16:00)

This session will give participants an overview of the process of loading MARC bibliographic records containing order information from vendors into their Unicorn/Symphony system using 9XX functionality and implementing communicating electronically with vendors using EDI.

This session will demonstrate:

• Defining a 9XX field in your catalogue format policies that will be used to create the order record in Symphony.
• Using the import MARC order utility wizard
• Scheduling the Load Flat Order records report
• Prerequisites required for setting up EDI ordering and claiming
• Setting up vendor records to support EDI functionalityMARC editor navigation.
